Description
ARC. According to legend, King Béla's daughter Margit had a life fit for a novel. The figure of the supposed author of the legend, Father Marcellus, returns in the novel, which is able to remain faithful to the historical facts while filling in the vague gaps in the most delicate way with the fantasy appropriate to the age. Gárdonyi spent a year thoroughly researching Margit, the nun of the Dominican monastery, in whose honor Nyulak Island was later named after her. In the story, we get to know the child Margit from the point of view of Brother Jancsi, and we can feel the strife going on in Hungary at that time. Over time, Jancsi, who became a monk, never distanced himself from Margit, who was already a nun at the time - his platonic love accompanied her to the grave.
